Law enforcement uses shuttles and warns of towing to manage traffic at Rick Ross Car Show

Rick Ross is holding his fourth annual car show at this 350-acre estate in Fayetteville and law enforcement is doing what they can to manage traffic.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — Law enforcement in Fayetteville is pulling out all the stops to keep traffic flowing during Rick Ross’ annual car show.

From directing vehicles on the ground to using drones overhead, more than 150 officers from Fayetteville and neighboring counties and municipalities are collaborating to ensure a safe and organized weekend.

“Our top priority here is that traffic is flowing,” Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Anthony Rhodes said, “making sure citizens can get in and out, and also to make sure our emergency vehicles, like ambulances, can get in anywhere on the 279 if they need to help somebody.”

Rhodes has worked the event since its beginning and said the biggest problems they’ve faced involve parking, especially people leaving their cars in neighborhoods or on the side of Highway 279.

“We do have a ton of tow trucks,” he said, warning drivers. “If you do park on the side of the roadway, we will tow your car.”

The very first year, Rhodes said, people parked at the property, and it quickly snowballed.

“The first year we were here, people were parking on the lot. That has been stopped. That was the biggest issue we’ve had because the lot actually probably couldn’t hold all the people with cars coming in. So with them parking at parking lots, we’re able to bus them in, and we don’t have many cars,” Rhodes said.

Now, visitors are directed to off-site parking lots where they board a shuttle to the event. But before getting on board, everyone goes through security.

Even one-year-old Kyrryn Evans had to be screened.

“It was real easy, real smooth,” Kyrryn’s dad, Nyrryk Evans, said. “Not too much traffic. It was pretty good. So, I’m looking forward to having a good time, but yeah, not too bad. Super easy.”

For anyone thinking about getting dropped off at the gate—think again.

“If you get dropped off, we’re going to tell you that Uber has to come back and get you,” he said. “Uber should know where to go, but we have designated parking areas that you have to go to—World Changers is one of them—and they have two others.”

Law enforcement said peak times for traffic are between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. and then again between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m., both Saturday and Sunday.
