HACAP partners with Healthy Kids Iowa to provide extra food to families in need

HACAP’s work with Healthy Kids Iowa kicks off next week, offering extra food support to families with kids from four to 18.

The organization will be distributing $40 boxes of healthy foods like fruits and veggies to families already eligible for emergency food assistance.

“As a food bank, we have special buying power. So forty dollars is gonna look different than what you might buy at the grocery store because we can buy so much more. That’s one of the things that we’re hoping is a benefit of the program is that families will be able to get more food than they might normally have gotten.” HACAP Director Kim Guardado said.

Each child can get one of those boxes per month through August at HACAP’s mobile sites and partner pantries.

You can find if there’s a site near you here.
