Once-Closed Clinton Health Food Store Revived as Co-Op in New Spot

CLINTON, N.Y. — A once-closed health food staple in the Village of Clinton has reopened its doors, retaining its original name but in a new location.

Toms Natural Foods, now operating as a co-op, has officially launched at 3 Fountain Street in Clinton.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate this milestone.

This decades-old establishment previously resided on College Street, specializing in local health foods and bulk options, until it closed in 2021.

Now a co-op, the once-closed store is a business enterprise that is operated by and for the benefit of its members.

The current stock includes farm-fresh eggs, dried herbs and spices, teas, flours, grains, and beans, nuts, unsweetened and candied dried fruits, meats, and more.

The store hours are Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; on Thursdays, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; on Fridays, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; and on Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Dubbed the first cooperative grocery store in Clinton, board member Jim Frederick said that the store continues the legacy of Tom’s and its importance within the community.

Reopening the store reflects “the desire of the people of Clinton to continue buying the herbs and spices and the other foods that he [Tom] had available,” he said.

Frederick added that the co-op will continue to sell healthy food that can be fixed in a healthy way.

“Not only do we sell the healthy products, but we try to have some healthy recipes that are available, so people know how to fix those foods,” he added.
