Sports writer was at the top of his class, and will be missed

Joe Mattis was what every newspaper writer should be, especially in writing and covering sports. He was everywhere and treated everyone with respect. He did his job as well as anyone before or after him. I enjoyed our trips to District 10 games and to the MLB all-star game in Cleveland. He’ll be missed.

Dan’s wife Susan and her daughter Brittany were in Oklahoma for the College Women’s World Series.

I see Jeff Black was at the Spartansburgers (S.C.) game.

Lanny Fox loves to golf, and now he has some new golf balls.

Congratulations to Cody Proper, the first recipient of the Trooper Jacques “Jay” Rougeau Jr. scholarship. Attending as Cody received the award were Jay’s wife Chloe, his mother Angela, brother Justin and cousin Gabrielle Troyer.

The art and sculpture walk is Friday in downtown Corry.

Finally, I saw that gas is $3.09 in Waterford. Not 40 cents higher like it is here.
