A Spokane man is facing serious allegations of attempting to hit children with his vehicle and brandishing a machete.
SPOKANE, Wash. – A man is in court on Tuesday after victims say he was attempting to hit children on the sidewalk with his vehicle, hitting a woman’s car and wielding a machete.
An affidavit states a woman was driving on E. 5th Avenue when she saw a Ford SUV pull out of a driveway and begin chasing children riding their bikes on the sidewalk of E. 5th Avenue.
When the woman came upon construction at S. Florida Street and E. 6th Avenue, the woman said she turned around and the same Ford SUV blocked her from doing so and reversed back into her car. The driver, identified as William J. Kerr, then reportedly walked up to the woman’s car with a machete and began shouting before getting back in his car and driving away on E. 5th Avenue.
The same court documents include testimony from teenagers who were riding scooters and walking near 6th Avenue and Rebecca. The teens said Kerr aggressively approached them, returned to his car, then came back over to the teens with a machete, demanding their scooters and charging them. The teens reportedly fled the area.
Officers involved state Kerr waived his Miranda Rights and said there were four kids trying to “car jack” him. He reportedly told officers he then chased the kids on foot and in his car.
Kerr appeared in court at 1:30 on Tuesday.
