El Metro launches free Summer transit program for kids

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – With summer just around the corner, the City of Laredo’s El Metro service is helping families stay connected to the city’s recreational and educational opportunities through a brand-new initiative: “Kids on the Go: Summer Youth Transportation Program.”

The program offers free, unlimited El Metro rides for all children ages 6 to 17 throughout the summer.

To participate, children must present one of the following valid IDs:

  • A City of Laredo Parks & Recreation ID
  • A Laredo Public Library card
  • An official El Metro Kids on the Go ID

Local residents are already applauding the new program.“I think the new program speaks well of our community, building a better Laredo,” said Antonio Alvarez. “It’s an example of the hard work by our mayor and our city. We’re very proud and should keep working for a better Laredo.”

The program officially launches on Tuesday, June 3, and will run through August 31.
