GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Officials with the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) said in a press release Tuesday that they awarded nearly 100 scholarships totaling over $200,000 to students, including two from North Central Florida.
This year, the Feeding Tomorrow Fund awarded funds to students from undergraduate to doctoral levels.
The University of Florida students who received recognition included Nicole Palma, who received $2,000 from the Edlong Undergraduate Scholarship, and Hyun Jeong Jung, who won $2,000 from the Dr. Richard L. Hall Scholarship in Flavor Science.
IFT leaders said the scholarships are courtesy of their Feeding Tomorrow Fund, which encourages, promotes, and rewards the excellence of students pursuing careers in food science.
The Feeding Tomorrow Fund scholarship program, which is one of the largest in the nation for food science students, provides undergraduate and graduate academic scholarships in various areas, including financial need, community college transfer, first-generation college enrollment, and in fields like food engineering, sensory and consumer science, and pediatric nutrition.
“IFT’s Feeding Tomorrow Fund is proud to support this year’s student recipients as they grow into the next generation of leaders in food science and shape the future of food. We congratulate each winner and look forward to supporting them on their academic and professional journeys as they help create an accessible, safe, and nutritious food system,” said Nina Steele, IFT Director, Engagement, Inclusion, and Volunteer Development.
IFT leaders said they advocate for science, technology, and research to address the world’s greatest food challenges by convening professionals from around the world – from producers and product developers to innovators and researchers across food, nutrition, and public health – with a shared mission to help create a global food supply that is sustainable, safe, nutritious, and accessible to all.
