Caldwell and Wilder YMCA’s offering free meals for kids this summer

The breakfasts and lunches are available to any kid in the area under 18.

CALDWELL, Idaho — Two Treasure Valley Family YMCA locations are providing free meals to children under 18 throughout the summer as part of a community food program.

The Caldwell YMCA and Wilder Y Kids sites began serving breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday, to help ensure young people have access to nutritious meals during school breaks.

“Ensuring kids have access to nutritious meals during the summer months at these free meal sites is one way we live our cause for Youth Development and support the health and well-being of every young person in our community,” said Teresa Wood-Adams, vice president and chief youth development operations officer at the Treasure Valley Family YMCA.

At the Caldwell YMCA facility, 3720 S. Indiana Ave., breakfast is served from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Children must be present to receive meals, which must be consumed on-site.

The Wilder Y Kids location serves breakfast from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the park across from the Mercer building at Wilder Elementary School. While children must be present to receive meals, food can be taken off-site from this location.

Wood-Adams said the organization provides “a safe, welcoming space for all, where every child and family can feel supported and cared for.”

The Caldwell YMCA can be reached at 208-454-9622. The Wilder site, located at the corner of A Avenue and 3rd Street, operates through Wilder Y Kids at 210 A Ave. and can be contacted at 208-807-3051.

No registration or income verification is required for the free meals program.
