The operators of dozens of regional food trucks pitted their culinary skills against each other Sunday in the third annual Lancaster’s Best Food Truck Competition, held at Root’s Country Market & Auction near Manheim.
And a barbecue truck emerged victorious when the judges’ votes were tallied.
M.A.D. BBQ of Elizabethtown won best food truck, according to Derek Eisenberger, president of Joyful Doberman Rescue of PA, for which the food truck competition is a fundraiser. M.A.D. BBQ also won the barbecue category.

Four food trucks competed in each of more than a dozen categories at the event, which was moved from Saturday, May 31, to Sunday, June 1, because of rain. A panel of judges decided the winners.
Strasburg-based Robino’s 717 came in second among the food trucks overall, and won the sandwich category.
Tied for third place were Walk-o Taco, which won best of the Latin/Mexican category; Cupcakes by Casey, which won best of dessert; and Penny’s, which won the frozen desserts category.
Those attending the food truck event also got to vote for a Consumer’s Choice award. Cool Beans Brew from Lebanon County took that title, along with winning the drinks category in the judged competition.
Other category winners were:
— Best of burgers: Nano Burger.
— Best of doughnuts: East Coast Mini Donuts.
— Best of ethnic: Bala Saahas.
— Best of Italian: Scott’s Artisan Pizza.
— Best of the “underdog” category: Farmhouse Stickys.
— Winner of the miscellaneous “other” category was Drifters – PA.
