Matheus Cunha is closing in on his £62.5m move to Manchester United.

The Brazil forward has been in Manchester over the weekend meeting United officials and tying up the loose ends of his transfer from Wolves.

Cunha was cleared to have a medical by Wolves last week.

The 26-year-old was pictured leaving the Lowry Hotel in Salford on Sunday morning.

He is now on his way to Brazil to begin preparations for Thursday’s World Cup qualifier with Ecuador (Friday 00:00 BST), which will be Carlo Ancelotti’s first game in charge.

Providing there are no hitches, Cunha will become Ruben Amorim’s first signing of the summer. Granting a visa will be a formality.

Cunha scored 33 goals in 92 appearances for Wolves after initially joining from Atletico Madrid on loan in January 2023.

Wolves signed Cunha permanently at the end of that season for up to 40m euros (£35m).

Manchester United have endured a dismal campaign and finished 15th in the Premier League table, level on points with Wolves.
