Fun in the mud at Oroville’s Annual Kids Mud Run

OROVILLE, Calif. — From foam-filled slides to mud pits and climbing walls, the 11th annual Kids Mud Run brought hundreds of families together for a day of fun, challenge, and purpose at Lord’s Gym in Oroville.

The event, which is free for ages 4 to 17, featured around 30 obstacles, each tailored to different age groups. Specific time blocks allowed parents to run with their kids, and a special needs heat is set for 5 p.m. Sunday.

“This weekend is about more than just getting muddy,” said course director Kristian Sullivan. “We want kids to push themselves, make memories, and do it all with family and community by their side.”

The course included custom-built features like a sled hill, inflatable bounce houses, and a kid-favorite foam slide.

“We spent years perfecting this thing,” Sullivan said. “They come up, slide down the tube, hit a bunch of foam, and slide all the way to the bottom.”

One young participant summed it up: “It’s a fun way to get out in the sun, run around, get dirty, and have fun!”

Another added, “If you mess up, you just keep going.”

Nicole Wallace, one of the event organizers, said the day was also about unplugging. “You look around and don’t see kids on their phones. They’re present, they’re outside, and they’re with their families.”

The event runs from 2 to 6 p.m., and anyone interested can still check for openings at the on-site info booth.
