Raising money to help teach the community about food and farming techniques

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – The Fledge Farm held a fundraiser to promote urban farming techniques for local farms and individuals on Saturday.

Those who visit the farm learn about gardening, food security, and can tour the farm. Along with the fundraiser, The Fledge also had outdoor games, food trucks, dancers, and music for visitors.

Jerry Norris, one of the founders of The Fledge, says the community garden allows people to receive a basic need with no financial barriers, and the farm provides a space to improve people’s mental health by connecting with nature.

“I think today is about taking back control of food security for the community, starting to have food sovereignty where we have a representation or ownership of food producers, the farmers, the processors, and ultimately land sovereignty, that matches the demographic that we have here in Lansing,” said Norris.
