Arkansas State to name Chris Pezman Director of Intercollegiate Athletics

Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – May 31, 2025 – Arkansas State University will announce Chris Pezman as its next Director of Intercollegiate Athletics possibly as early as Monday. That’s according to reports from AStateNation and ESPN.

Pezman was athletic director at the University of Houston from 2017-2024. He was fired by Houston June 20, 2024, with two years remaining on his contract.

ESPN college sportswriter Pete Thamel first reported the news about Pezman at 3:39pm Saturday in a post on Thamel’s X account. AStateNation followed three minutes later.

Thamel wrote: “Sources: Former Houston athletic director Chris Pezman is expected to be the next athletic director at Arkansas State. Pezman worked at Cal in a senior role prior to his time as the AD at Houston from 2017-24.”

AStateNation wrote: “Sources have told us former Houston AD Chris Pezman will be announced as the new athletic director at Arkansas State on Monday. Wednesday press conference is expected.”

There has been no announcement from the A-State Sports Inf0rmation Office.

Pezman would replace former Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jeff Purinton who announced in April he was leaving to take a position with Learfield Communications in Dallas.
