GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Mental Health Awareness Month is coming to a close, and officials at Meridian Healthcare held a Food Fest to inform the community about their services.
This was an open invitation to see what they do and where they’re located in Gainesville. Meridian offers services such as mental health counseling, whether it’s before, during, or after a crisis.
The Food Fest had everything from food trucks to live music, and even a kids’ zone.
“It helps to remove stigma,” said Kendra Albury, vice president of marketing for Meridian Healthcare. “And the more we talk about it, the more we break down that stigma, and the more others who are struggling with any type of mental health whether it’s anxiety or depression, they’re more able to find their communities, and begin to have courageous conversations.”
Free health screenings were also available at the event.
“To know that they’re loved, they’re cared for, that their voices matter, and that Meridian is here for them before, during, or following a crisis,” Albury shared. “We are the heartbeat of the community, and we’re here to build community, and transform communities one life at a time, one community at a time.”
Donations collected at the event will go directly to helping people facing mental health and substance use challenges.
