Part science lab, part nature center, this hands-on exhibit space lets kids explore everything from magnets and weather to bugs and bones. DiscoveryWorks is inside the library, but don’t let that fool you—there’s nothing quiet about the fun here. DiscoveryWorks reopened this winter after being closed for a few months for renovations. The updated space offers more for all ages and abilities, according to Shea Alltmont, the communications manager for Avon Lake Public Library.

“The space is over 3,000 square feet with more than 100 different types of activities,” Alltmont said. “We also have several large-scale exhibits that encourage interactive play.”

One of the highlights Alltmont mentioned is an interactive Lake Erie aquarium where kids can design their own fish and scan it into the aquarium display. Another favorite exhibit she mentioned is a little street scene, complete with a play garden and mailbox.

Admission is free.

“It has quickly become the most popular destination for residents and visitors,” said Derek Schroeder, Beachwood Community Services Director. “Every day, you’ll find kids playing, families gathering and neighbors connecting—making it a vibrant hub for the community.”

Recently rebuilt, the PEACE Playground blends art, nature and community in a colorful corner of Cleveland Heights. Kids can climb on creative structures, including a giant red cardinal. They can also explore a little free library and enjoy the funky, welcoming vibe that makes this spot perfect for imaginative play.

5. Warrior Fitness Course at James Day Park – Parma

Parma Recreation Director Mickey Vittardi said the city seeks to offer exciting ways for residents and non-residents to remain physically active while having fun. And the Warrior Fitness Course fits that bill.

“The community has responded very positively,” Vittardi said. “It is utilized by young adults and adults who wish to become fit and healthy, as well as those individuals who use the course for pure fun. The course is also used by athletes and athletic teams for training.”
