Kids bike race series coming to Fayetteville June 21

Polish up your bikes, and get ready to race, kids. A kids criterium bike race is coming to Fayetteville next month.

The Ozark Foundation is hosting a series of races this summer called the Oz Kids Crit Championship Series, and a Fayetteville race is set for June 21 in the Upper Ramble.

The event is available to kids from 2 to 10 years old of all ability and skill levels, organizers said, and will take place on a closed-loop course in a traffic-free environment.

From the description of the race:

These races are all about speed, skill, and most importantly, fun! Kids navigate a short course with assigned laps determined by age with lots of opportunity for parents & spectators to cheer them on. OZ Kids™ Crits are a great way for kids to experience the thrill of competitive cycling while building confidence, coordination, and sportsmanship.

The first race in the series took place in Pea Ridge on May 10. After the Fayetteville Race on June 21, races are scheduled in Gravette on Aug. 9, Bella Vista on Sept. 20, and Bentonville on Oct. 18.

The Fayetteville race will take place on a curvy, hard-surface course through West Avenue and the newly-completed Upper Ramble. 

Kids will race in categories grouped by age, from 2-3 year old balance bikers up to 10 year old pedal bikers. Participants will receive a numbered race plate, timing chip, and custom medal. The top three finishers will earn a spot on the podium, and a special price, organizers said.

Downtown Fayetteville Coalition will help host the race in Fayetteville.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Ozark Foundation and the OZ Kids™ Crit Championship Series to the newly completed Upper Ramble,” said Kelly Rich, Executive Director of Downtown Fayetteville Coalition in a press release. “Downtown Fayetteville is for everyone, and this event is a wonderful opportunity for young families to come together and experience the heart of our city in a unique and active way.”

Registration is $15 for the Fayetteville race, or $50 for all four remaining races in the series.
