BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Since schools let out for summer last week, most kids across the Brazos Valley are having fun and enjoying the sun. However, many other families are left worrying about their next meal as they’re no longer getting breakfast and lunch at school. In the meantime, local schools are creating summer nutrition programs to help combat childhood hunger.
With the price of goods, services, and costs of living continuing to increase, families in need of food assistance seem to fall further behind.
According to the Texas Department of Agriculture, more than one in five kids struggle with hunger in Texas. However, school districts in the Brazos Valley are doing everything they can to ensure our kids are fed.
During the school year, local school districts have breakfast and lunch programs for students on financial aid. However, when the school year ends, so do those specific programs. That’s why the Brazos Valley is working as one.
Breakfast and lunch will be served for free to kids 18 years old and younger in Navasota, Caldwell, Madisonville, Hearne, Franklin, Bryan, and College Station ISDs.

Most feeding locations will be at local public schools in your area, and there are no requirements to seek help. Children 18 years old and younger can receive free breakfast and lunch. In some areas, adults can purchase meals for $3 to $5.
