More than 1,500 cars expected at Dover show with chance to race your car on timed circuit

A company that claims the title of “world’s largest hot rodding association” is holding a car show in Dover with the chance for automobile enthusiasts to race their cars in a timed competition.

Goodguys Rod & Custom Association is organizing the Grundy Insurance Mid-Atlantic Nationals presented by R&M Performance on Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31 at Dover Motor Speedway, 1131 N. Dupont Highway, Dover.

The association is expecting over 1,500 cars to be on display at the Monster Mile with awards for the top vehicles in a variety of classes. Professional car builder Mark Giambalvo of Creative Rod & Kustom is scheduled to select the top 10 builder’s choice rides.

The show also features autocross races, vendors showcasing car parts and accessories, live music, food and the family zone with games and crafts.

On Friday, visitors can drive their car around the Dover Speedway, with registration in advance.

Tickets and registration information for Mid-Atlantic Nationals in Dover

One-day tickets are $28 for ages 13 and older, $10 for ages 7-12 and free for ages 6 and younger, available on the Goodguys website or at the gate. Goodguys members receive a discount.

If you want to enter your car in the show, there’s a discount for registering in advance on the website, but you can also register in person in the Bally’s Casino ballroom next to the speedway Thursday, May 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, May 30 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, May 31 starting at 7 a.m.

You can race your car at Mid-Atlantic Nationals

Goodguys welcomes drivers ages 18 and older to bring their cars to compete one at a time on a timed road course called the autocross.

Six racing classes cover first-timers to professionals. The classes allow for a range of vehicles: stock trim, mildly modified street cars, aggressive street-prepped track cars and fully prepped competition racers.

Drivers must be a Goodguys member with valid insurance and a helmet.

Here are the scheduled events on Friday, May 30 at Dover Motor Speedway:

• Gates open, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with cars on display
• GoodGuys autocross, 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m., with cars racing one at a time on a timed road course
• Nostalgic entertainment by McQueen Classics, 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.
• Free kids model “make ‘n’ take” craft, 1 p.m.
• Cruise Dover Motor Speedway in your car, 5 p.m., with registration in advance
• Tailgate party at 5 p.m. with food trucks and a DJ

• Gates open, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with cars on display
• Goodguys autocross racing, 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. with the finals in five categories at 3:30 p.m.
• Winners circle car show vehicles on display, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring 2025 award winners
• Free kids model “make ‘n’ take” craft, 11 a.m.
• Nostalgic entertainment by McQueen Classics, 12:30 and 3:40 p.m.
• Awards, 4:44 p.m.

Kickoff party and cruise Thursday, May 29

As a warm-up before the main event, a “kickoff party and cruise” will be held Thursday, May 29 at 5:30 p.m., starting at Bally’s Casino next to Dover Speedway, traveling to the Greentree Village shopping center on Forrest Avenue (Route 8) at Independence Boulevard.

At the shopping center, there will be a DJ and a chance to meet other cruisers and look at their cars.

Drivers can also just meet at the Greentree Village shopping center at 6:30 p.m. The event is scheduled to last until 9 p.m.
