N.J. couple left their young kids home alone to go out drinking on Memorial Day Weekend, cops say

A Hudson County couple left their two young kids home alone Saturday to go out drinking in Atlantic City, court documents show.

Authorities in Atlantic County charged the couple, a 38-year-old woman and 43-year-old man from Union City, with third-degree endangering or neglect of a child, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Police responded to a home in Brigantine on Saturday over the Memorial Day Weekend for a wellness check regarding kids at the home alone, charging documents show.

Police found an 8-year-old and a 1-year-old at the home who had been in the house alone for over three hours, police said in charging documents.

The couple charged in the case was contacted by police and returned to the residence intoxicated, police said in charging documents.

The man told officers they were at a casino in Atlantic City, police said in charging documents.

Officers also found two empty bottles of Hennessy Liquor on a kitchen table accessible to the children, authorities said in charging documents.

The couple is scheduled to appear in Atlantic County court on June 20.

Attorneys for the couple were not listed in court records Wednesday.
