Tallahassee State College food pantry addresses summer food insecurity among students, young adults

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Tallahassee State College is addressing food insecurity among students and young adults by implementing a food pantry on campus.

TSC Case Manager Kayla Dover said the pantry is helping ease the burden on students when groceries are already expensive and many students may not be able to work as often.

Particularly in the summer time, though, Dover said many students at TSC have families of their own, so right now, they’re preparing to take on more people, making sure no students are hungry this summer.

“In the summertime, we see a big increase, especially for students who may have families,” the case manager said. “If they have kids, their kids are out of school and they maybe don’t have access to breakfast and lunch, so it’s a little bit harder on the families coming into summer.”

As the college works to feed more people, they are also accepting donations such as non-perishable foods, hygiene products and school supplies.
