4 Cult Classic Songs That 2000s Kids Might Only Know From Video Games

Kids who were born in or shortly before the 2000s got to have a great taste of everything that decade had to offer musically. However, some well-known songs from that era might only be familiar to you because you heard them played in video games. Let’s take a walk through the past and examine a few examples, shall we?

“Live On Stage” by Dilated Peoples and Talib Kweli

How cool would it be if this song got a fresh remix or possibly a remastered release? “Live On Stage” by Dilated Peoples and Talib Kweli was a standout track from the famed 2003 basketball video game NBA Street Vol. 2. It has an old-school vibe to it, and any kid in 2003 likely had this song stuck in their head long after they finished the game.

“I’m A Swing It” by House Of Pain

The Tony Hawk video games from the 90s and 00s had some of the most memorable soundtracks from the early era of PlayStation games. One example is “I’m A Swing It” by House Of Pain, known best by 2000s kids via its inclusion in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3. That particular 2001 skateboarding video game had a ton of great tunes, but you just can’t beat this classic.

“1979” by Smashing Pumpkins

Gen X and 90s kids definitely know this song well. However, the young crowd might only know it from its inclusion in Grand Theft Auto IV from 2008. The alternative rock song came out over a decade earlier in 1996, and it’s a classic among fans of the grunge movement and the mid-90s era of rock music.

“No Cigar” by Millencolin

A Tony Hawk game makes this list again, this time for “No Cigar” by Millencolin. This iconic tune was included in the 2000 game Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. Many 2000s kids and 1990s kids alike probably played this game on the OG PlayStation or the Game Boy Color. “No Cigar” comes from the Swedish punk band’s 2001 EP of the same name, and it’s known by most for its inclusion in several different Tony Hawk skateboarding games.
