First spotted by Reddit user AngieK22, the openings are listed for CIG’s UK and Frankfurt offices and are looking for a Cinematic Animator to work on Squadron 42. The most intriguing part in our case is the list of requirements for candidates, which begins by stating that applicants must have “professional experience in game animation development, ideally on current/next-gen consoles,” all but confirming the title to be multi-platform.
With both Star Citizen and SQ42 promising – should they actually ever release – to be larger-than-life games comparable in quality to massive industry juggernauts, the reveal left many scratching their heads about how Cloud Imperium plans to port Squadron 42 to consoles and optimize it for playability there, with some half-joking that the game will only be ported to future-gen consoles rumored to arrive by September 2027.
Other requirements listed in the job descriptions include the ability to quickly adapt to new pipelines and tools, experience with Maya, MotionBuilder, and similar software, the skill to create fluid, smooth, and realistic animations demonstrating strong animation fundamentals, and the ability to identify technical and developmental risks and challenges. If this sounds like something you’re proficient in, you can try applying yourself here and here.
