Jide Wintoki, a professor of finance and associate dean of graduate programs at the University of Kansas, has been selected as the next dean of the School of Business.

He first joined the school in 2008. Prior to that, he earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Lagos in Nigeria, and his doctorate in finance from the University of Georgia, according to a KU news release on Monday.

His research “broadly focuses on corporate and international finance with an emphasis on corporate governance, and he has also examined the intersections of marketing and finance,” according to the release. “He has received several awards for his papers and teaching including the MBA Finance Faculty Outstanding Teaching Award, the Southern Finance Association Meeting’s Best Empirical Finance Paper and the Association of Business Doctoral Students of KU School of Business’ mentor recognition award.”

The school is celebrating its centennial this year. Wintoki said in the release that it’s an honor to be chosen for the role at this pivotal moment in the school’s history.

“As we celebrate the school’s first century, I look forward to collaborating with our staff, faculty, alumni, partners across the university and well-wishers to continue to provide students with a transformative educational experience that leads to meaningful success and fulfillment,” he said in the release. “Working together, we will strengthen the foundation for the school’s next hundred years and ensure that all who invest in our mission see the lasting impact of their support.”

Wintoki will take over the position July 1 from interim dean Susan Scholz, who will resume her position as a professor of accounting and executive associate dean. Scholz had served in the position since August, when Paige Fields stepped into a teaching role after serving as dean since 2017.

Other finalists for the position included Lin Nan, of Purdue; Cheryl Druehl, of George Mason; and Sharon Alvarez, of the University of Pittsburgh.

Ann Brill, dean of the School of Journalism & Mass Communications, and Jason Hornberger, vice provost of finance, served as co-chairs of the search committee, according to previous KU news releases. WittKieffer, an executive search firm specializing in higher education, assisted.
