Stamp Out Hunger collects non-perishable food donations for Second Harvest Foodbank

MADISON (WKOW) — Stamp Out Hunger, the national food drive operated by the National Association of Lettercarriers and United Way, collected non-perishable food donations for Second Harvest Foodbank.

Second Harvest Foodbank has been the recipient of non-perishable food donations from two Madison Post Office locations for the last three years.

Mail carriers dropped off bags at homes for donations. People were then able to leave their donations near their mailbox on Saturday, May 10.

Kris Tazelaar is the media and public relations manager for Second Harvest Foodbank of southern Wisconsin. He said the donations will go to the communities and people struggling with hunger.

“It’s really non-perishable because we know that stuff is safe when it’s not weather controlled. But it’s also something that really helps to fill up their pantry so they’ve got meals for their families,” Tazelaar said.

He said they hoped to raise 100,000 pounds of food in the Madison area alone.

“We’re going to provide hundreds of thousands of meals as a result of this food. So we’re incredibly grateful,” he said.
