PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Nobody wants snail mail and when it comes to food delivery, you definitely don’t want stale mail. That’s why the Letter Carrier Food Drive only takes non-perishables!
The National Food Drive is more than 30 years running as of Saturday.
Donators were instructed to put their donations in or around their mailboxes and then USPS or volunteers handle the rest.
Saturday, local carriers did their part in the drive.
”We have actually had quite a bit. I have heard that we have a box truck going around, picking up and they picked up earlier this morning so us as carriers we are still picking up some but not quite as many since they had already gotten to them,” said Tiffany Beall, a city carrier for USPS.
Over 80,000 pounds of donated foods will be given to organizations like the Salvation Army and the Rescue Mission.
