SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Over the weekend, donations were gathered to help nearby neighborhoods.
On Saturday, May 10, volunteers met at the Siouxland Food Bank to help organize donations from the United States Postal Service. For 33 years, letter carriers have collected donations of non-perishable food items.
The food drive provides residents of Sioux City with an easy way to donate food to those in need.
Neighbors are given bags to fill with food items. Volunteers helped sort the donations into boxes.
Then, those boxes will go out to those in need on Monday.
“It makes a big difference. It may not seem like it but each item of food that’s put in the good food, it helps,” said Cole Frese, a member of the Mayor’s Youth Commission.
Siouxland Food Bank representatives say this is the largest food donation for them in the year, bringing in an average of ten thousand pounds of food.
