Food Truck Fridays coming to Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce

The Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce has launched Food Truck Fridays.

The Chamber will begin have a different food truck on its property, 6133 LA 311, every Friday, starting May 16, with NadieB’s Taste of HoumeAH. The following week will be Fat Boy Phillies. The chamber will advertise which food truck will be on location on its Facebook page.

“We kinda like the food truck vibe, and we just want to help our small businesses,” Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce CEO Nicol Montiville said.

NadieB owner Nadia Burrell said she would have the Chubby Chaser Eggroll, a cheeseburger eggroll; the Seafood Eggroll, an eggroll stuffed with crawfish, crab, shrimp and cheeses; and the Smash Burger Trio, a double meat burger with cheese, bacon, onion and special sauce. the Smash Burger also comes with wings and fries. Prices range from $10 to $18.

Burrell said she was appreciative of getting to use the space, and she thought it was a great way to advertise local food trucks.

“I think it’s an awesome way to get our names out there,” she said. “I’m seeing a lot of food trucks out there, and its a great way to get your truck out there and let people know what you’re doing.”

According to Montiville, she was copying something she saw on Facebook, and wanted to see how it worked out. The event will last until the end of July. Anyone can show up to buy food, but participating trucks will be limited to those who are chamber members. To become a member, there is an annual fee of $150.

Last month, the Terrebonne Parish Council changed the ordinance governing mobile food vendors, which includes food trucks. These changes require the vendors to get a $100 license with the parish to operate within its boundaries. Each time the food truck wants to operate at a different location, the owner/operator must get a permit from the parish. These permits are free, and there are some exemptions.

Food trucks now may operate in the Downtown Historic District, but only during Mardi Gras or other festivals/fairs, or fundraisers. They are expressly forbidden otherwise.
