Mom wakes up from anesthesia, totally unprepared for how many kids she has

A mom still feeling the effects of her anesthesia after undergoing surgery was left stunned when her husband told her how many kids she has.

Before Belle Blake from Nashville, Tennessee, underwent surgery to repair her nose, she told her husband to have a camera ready for when she left hospital. “I wanted to film when I woke up in case I said something funny,” Blake told Newsweek.

An avid content creator, Blake had seen the many videos doing the rounds on social media showing recovering patients saying all kinds of unexpected things while under the influence of strong sedatives. She wanted to make sure her response was recorded and with good reason.

Everyone responds to anesthesia differently. One recent study event suggested around 1 in 10 surgery patients remained at least partly conscious during their procedure, despite having been given general anesthesia.

In the past, Blake has woken during surgery, so her doctors were not taking any chances this time. “They gave me propofol, which causes retrograde amnesia, because I often wake up during surgery and it was a precaution so I wasn’t traumatized,” she said.

Though the propofol did the trick and Blake remained asleep during her operation, it did make the day after especially hazy. “I remember getting my IV put in at 6:30 a.m. and I remember watching Bridgerton in bed around 7 p.m. I don’t remember anything in between,” she said.

Fortunately, Blake’s husband heeded her advice and had a camera ready to capture some of the unusual things she said during the ride home and in her subsequent recovery. “He was driving, so he set up the camera and gave it to me,” Blake said.

Blake posted a segment of the resulting footage to her TikTok, with the clip racking up over 800,000 views and counting. It captures the moment when Blake discovers she has four kids. “Four babies?!?” she says in the video. “Oh my God, I hit the Lotto.” Evidently noticing there are no kids in the car, Blake says, “We don’t have any right now,” with her husband reminding her again: “yeah we do; we have four.”

There is a moment of silence as Blake appears to process this information before once again asking: “We have four babies?” “Yeah,” her husband replied. “Are they gorgeous?” she asks. “Yeah,” he replies again.” “Oh my God,” she says. “You’re just, like, welcome everyone. All my kids deserve pancakes and bacon and …”

The video then cuts to later in the journey with Blake asking her husband: “Do you think my kids are gonna love me?” He tells her: “They already do.” She is shocked to learn that her son is “8 and still loves me,” asking: “Does he cuddle with me?” “He hugs you,” her husband tells her. Blake is then stunned to discover her 7-year-old daughter’s name is Daphne, responding, “oh my God, that’s a beautiful name!” before breaking down in tears.

Later, Blake asks her husband if all of their kids are “gorgeous,” to which he confirms yes. When he once again says they have four kids, Blake responds, “oh my God, I hit the lottery,” before appearing to get sidetracked, asking: “Where can you get a scratch-off ticket?”

Back at home and resting up, Blake is then introduced to her other daughter Davina, once again saying how much of a “pretty name” it is before learning she chose it herself. “I’m a good mommy; you have such a pretty name, baby girl,” she tells her daughter. “She’s gorgeous,” she adds, before asking: “Whose baby is that?” “It’s yours,” her husband reminds her. The clip ends with Blake addressing Davina directly, telling her: “Daddy says I’m your mommy.”

Watching the videos back came as a shock to Blake. “I don’t remember anything I said in any of the videos either, so it’s been fun to look back on them,” she said. Her unusual comments in the video are only the tip of the iceberg. “I have one where I said the CIA was jealous of my nose job and I also didn’t remember I was married so I asked my husband for his phone number,” Blake said.

Despite not being her usual self, there was something heartwarming about Blake’s reaction to learning about her family. “I thought I was very funny. It was also shocking how sweet it was being told about my kids,” she said. “I showed my big kids and they thought it was really funny, too.”

Though the anesthesia has well and truly worn off now, the experience has reminded Blake of how blessed she truly is.
