Help Stamp Out Hunger in Brevard on May 10

The 33rd annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive takes place on Saturday, May 10, and this year, officials said it’s more important than ever as area food pantries face funding cuts.

Letter carriers nationwide will collect groceries and distribute items to their local food banks.

United Way Space Coast is partnering with the United States Postal Service and The National Association of Letter Carriers for the nations largest single-day food collection event.

In a news release, Caron Partridge, president of United Way Space Coast, said food insecurity continues to be a significant issue for many on the Space Coast. Every donation is impactful, she said.

“The beauty of this initiative is its simplicity,” said Partridge. “Anyone can participate by leaving a bag of food by their mailbox, and that small action directly supports families in need right here in Brevard County.”

Last year the drive gathered more than 43 million pounds of food nationwide.

How to help

Participants are encouraged to leave a bag of non-perishable food items near their mailbox on May 10, before mail delivery. Carriers will pick up donations during their routes. Contributions will then be distributed to local food partners for allocation.

Recommended food donations include:

  • Canned fruit, vegetables, soups and meals
  • Boxed pasta, rice and meals
  • Peanut butter, cereal and shelf-stable milk
  • Other non-perishable staples

Please avoid glass and expired items.
