Wonder, a self-described “new kind of food hall” that offers menus by celebrity chefs including Bobby Flay and José Andrés, is planning to open a location in Franconia and may be eyeing a spot in Potomac Yard in Alexandria, according to a report by the Washington Business Journal.

According to the WBJ, Wonder, which has locations in Connecticut, Delaware, DC, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island, will open seven D.C.-area locations.

Wonder’s food hall concept is described on its website as “Lightning-fast food delivery, takeout, and dine-in from iconic restaurants, all in one place. Order multiple restaurants at once for lunch and dinner.”

On this day in 1991, Patricia S. “Patsy” Ticer became the first woman to be elected Mayor of Alexandria. She had served as mayor since January of that year, filling a vacancy, and she continued to hold that office until 1996, when she began serving in the Virginia State Senate.

Alexandria City Council members highlighted economic uncertainty and federal impacts as key challenges facing the city during a Chamber of Commerce breakfast yesterday. The sold-out event at National Industries for the Blind allowed business leaders to hear directly from city leadership about priorities and upcoming initiatives.

The Alexandria Police Department will hold a wreath-laying ceremony today to pay tribute to officers who have died while serving their community. During the ceremony, a bell will toll for each of the 18 officers who have died in the line of duty since the department was established in 1870.

Alexandria’s 18th Annual Community Cookout series continues tonight at Ewald Park. Community members are invited to stop by between 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. to enjoy free food and activities, and access to city departments and resources.

At its meeting tonight, the Board of Architectural Review will review the first concept for a reimagined Point Lumley Park. They’ll also review a proposal for Eclairons Pastry and Coffee House to open in the former Firehook Bakery in Old Town.

Governor Glenn Youngkin will announce the 2026 Virginia Teacher of the Year today at 4:30 p.m.. The 2026 Virginia Teacher of the Year will represent the Commonwealth in the Council of Chief State School Officers’ National Teacher of the Year Program. The 2026 Virginia Teacher of the Year will be chosen from the eight 2026 Virginia Regional Teachers of the Year, which include;

  • Region 2 Deana Hubbell, elementary teacher at Carrsville Elementary, Isle of Wight County Public Schools
