Son runs over, kills father after dispute about Mexican food, authorities say

CALDWELL PARISH, La. (KNOE/Gray News) – A Louisiana man is facing charges after authorities say he intentionally ran over his father following a dispute about who would pay the bill at a Mexican restaurant.

The Caldwell Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested 37-year-old Lucas Stowe on charges of second-degree murder in connection to the death of his father, 64-year-old Luther Stowe, KNOE reports.

CPSO received a call Thursday regarding a pedestrian being hit in the parking lot in front of the Gonzalez Mexican Restaurant in Columbia. Around the same time, officials say reports also came in advising that an ambulance was needed at the parking lot.

When authorities arrived, they discovered a man who had been run over and appeared to have extreme trauma. The victim, who later died at the hospital, was identified as Luther Stowe.

CPSO says Deputy Maxwell, who was off duty at the time, heard tires squalling nearby and looked up to see a body on the ground and a white Ford he believed ran over the body leaving the parking lot. While authorities helped the victim, Maxwell left the parking lot in his personal truck to attempt to stop the vehicle, according to CPSO.

Deputies took Lucas Stowe into custody after stopping his vehicle in front of Fontenot’s Cajun Way, another restaurant in Columbia. He was transported to Caldwell Parish Annex.

After interviewing witnesses, authorities say the incident stemmed from a disagreement between the father and son about who would pay for the food at the Mexican restaurant where they had just eaten.

CPSO says video footage from the scene shows Lucas Stowe getting into his car and waiting for his father to exit the restaurant before he allegedly “rapidly accelerated,” running over the 64-year-old.
