NALC invites Laredo to participate in nation’s largest food drive

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Postal services nationwide are participating in a campaign called Stamp Out Hunger.

On Saturday, May 10, you can help your neighbor by placing canned food in your mailbox.

The campaign is organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), and participants will collect and deliver non-perishable items such as canned peas, corn and bottled water.

The collected goods will be sent to organizations like the Laredo Regional Food Bank and the South Texas Food Bank, with Bags having been placed in mailboxes around town.

According to Luis Alfonso with the Laredo Letter Carriers, “If for any reason you don’t receive a bag or a reminder card, you can still participate. Just put your non-perishable food items in a bag and your letter carrier will do the rest.”

Donations can be dropped off at any Laredo post office.

Last year, 9,000 pounds were collected throughout the city.
