
The Valley City State University Shooting Sports team capped off its spring season with individual and team wins at the NDSU Clay Clash, held May 3 in Horace, N.D.
VCSU’s newly formed skeet team took first place in the team skeet competition. Ty Awender led the charge by scoring an impressive 46 out of 50 as he took first place individually as well. VCSU’s winning skeet team included Awender, Cali Steffan, Kelby Gjovik, Kasey Odegaard, and Logan Heen.
VCSU also had a strong showing in the trap competition with three shooters above a 90/100. Awender shot a 92, Steffan shot a 96, and Heen shot a 98 to tie for first place. The individual competition went to a shoot-off where it took an additional 40 shots to determine the winner. Heen finished the shoot-off in second place, capping off an amazing spring season for VCSU.
Other teams attending the NDSU Clay Clash included North Dakota State University, University of Jamestown and Bismarck State College.
