ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) – Cans, cereal and any non-perishable food items are key to make this year’s local food drive a success.
The annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is set for this Saturday, May 21.
This charitable initiative supports families and individuals across the Greater Fort Wayne region who suffer with food insecurity.
The National Association of Letter Carriers and Associated Churches of Fort Wayne and Allen County partner each year for the second Saturday of May.
Letter carriers from Allen County and surrounding counties sent letters to homeowners last week to promote this year’s food drive. They will go around to residents and collect donations all throughout the day on Saturday, to then drop-off bags to Associated Churches.
Associated Churches, located near downtown Fort Wayne, distributes food items collected in this years drive to local food pantries and organizations for individuals in need.
To participate, organizers said to leave non-perishable food items (such as cans, cereal boxes and more) in grocery bags by your mailbox for carriers to collect.
Organizers said if members of the community did not receive a letter, they can still donate and leave donations in bags by their mailboxes.
The community can also make a difference in this year’s food drive by signing up to volunteer as food distributers.
