
Police say the shooting may have been gang-related.
EDENTON, N.C. — A man has been arrested after a shooting at a Food Lion in Edenton, N.C., left two people injured, according to the Edenton Police Department.
The shooting happened at 6:50 p.m. at the store off Virginia Road, according to a Facebook post from the police department. Two people were shot — one inside the store, and one outside — and taken to ECU Health Chowan Hospital. They are now stable, and one had been released from the hospital by Monday afternoon.
Police said in a Monday update that the shooting may have been gang-related, and the three individuals knew each other.
Raymark Devon Bembury was charged with:
- One count of felonious assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflicting serious injury
- One count of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
- One count of felony possession of a firearm by a felon
- Two counts of felony discharge of a firearm within an enclosure to incite fear.
- One count of misdemeanor discharge of a firearm in city limits
- One count of misdemeanor carry concealed gun
- One count of misdemeanor of going armed to terror the public
“We want to emphasize that this was NOT an active shooter situation,” police said in a Monday update. “The incident was an isolated encounter between individuals known to each other and does not reflect a broader or random threat to the community.”
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are possible.
