LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — May 10th marks the 33rd anniversary of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the largest one-day food drive in the nation.
Each year, on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers across the country collect non-perishable food donations from customers, which are then delivered to local food pantries.
The drive has amassed over 1.9 billion pounds of food throughout its history, benefiting from the Postal Service’s extensive delivery network that includes Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The need is great, but you can help, organizers say. Currently, more than 44 million Americans face food insecurity, including over 14 million children and nearly 5.5 million seniors over age 60.
The timing of the food drive is crucial, as food banks and pantries often see a decline in donations after the winter holidays, leaving them depleted by spring.
This is particularly challenging as many school meal programs are unavailable during the summer months.
Participating in the drive is simple: leave non-perishable food donations in a bag by your mailbox on Saturday, May 10, 2025, and your letter carrier will collect them.
Organizers encourage customers to verify food collections with their letter carrier or check local NALC Branch coverage online.
