Five Star Sensation food event returns this year

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Five Star Sensation, the large-scale biennial food event, is coming up in June.

The tasting, which benefits University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, is 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at Cuyahoga Community College in Highland Hills.

Vinnie Cimino, chef/partner of Cordelia and a James Beard Award nominee, returns as host chef. The event is expected to draw 50 acclaimed chefs and vintners from around the world.

The food event has been held every other year since 1987. Five Star Sensation has raised more than $23 million for UH Seidman Cancer Center.

The event is held under massive tents, with chefs coming from all over to serve exquisite appetizers. New this year, under French Quarter-themed tents, are pastry-tasting stations and a late-night area that features a DJ and dancing, VIP cabanas and more.

Edwins’ Brandon Chrostowski, restaurateur Doug Katz and Larder’s Jeremy and Allie Umansky – none of them strangers to James Beard Award nods – are slated to attend along with chefs from across the country.

Tickets are $350 with sponsorship opportunities available. Go to support.uhgiving.org for tickets, which usually sell fairly quickly.

Organizers aim to raise $1.5 million to support patient experience, nursing, research and technology and immunotherapy.

Co-chairs are Ida Haber, Lisa and Kevin Chernikoff, and Margaret Singerman. Honorary chairs are Jane and Lee Seidman and Dr. Theodoros Teknos, president and scientific director of UH Seidman Cancer Center and the Jane and Lee Seidman Chair in Cancer Innovation.

Tri-C’s Eastern campus is at 4250 Richmond Road, Highland Hills.
