LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County earned its sixth win of the season on Friday at First Quality Field as the Huskies defeated Mt. Union, 14-0, in four and a half innings.

Piper Specht had four RBIs with a double in three at-bats for the Huskies (6-9). Mya Felmlee, Riley Hine, Macy Pietzch and Ava Baker each had two RBIs.

Jalee Bodtorf and Hine each posted two hits. Baker tallied three hits including a double. Pietzch and Felmlee each had a double. Hine recorded a triple.

After scoring five runs in their previous three contests (0-3 in those three games), the Huskies were relentless in putting runs on the board.

“Hitting’s contagious. Once someone starts hitting, we string a couple hits together…Earlier this week we were on the flipside to this. Denny has his team always ready to go…Our kids work hard. They keep working, they don’t quit and I’m proud of them for that,” Huskies head coach Craig Weston stated.

In the circle, Pietzch pitched five innings, allowed four hits, no runs, three walks and three strikeouts.

“I definitely had a lot of confidence in myself, especially since I know I can trust my teammates behind me,” Pietzch said. “I think we did pretty good today.”

The Huskies had a dozen hits with no errors.

“I liked our rallies with two outs. We were hitting around the lineup today, everyone was getting hits and our fielding was pretty good today,” Pietzch said.

Mt. Union had four hits and one error. Kaylynn Wharton had a bunt single in the second inning. Sydnee Harris, Haley Atherton and Kara Benson each added a single in the fourth frame, but Pietzch would get a strikeout to end the scoring threat.

“We played a really good game yesterday and it didn’t follow through today,” Trojans head coach Dennis Drake said. “I’m kind of at a loss of really what happened. We played a really good game yesterday. I was hoping to build on it today, but we just didn’t.”

Mifflin County scored five times in the second frame, twice in the third frame and seven times in the fourth.

“Well Mt. Union has been a top notch program for years. So, you know when you play them you better come ready to play. There are no cupcakes, especially with them. A lot of these girls play travel ball together. So, there are friendships there, but when you walk through that gate you have to be ready to go and we were today,” Weston added about facing Mt. Union.

Drake and the Trojans are used to navigating all over the map when it comes to meeting opponents. So, Friday’s showdown with the Huskies felt a bit different.

“Getting to play somewhere close is a little different for us. We’re always used to an hour plus travel,” Drake noted. “Most of our opponents are that further distance.”

MC hosts Mechanicsburg on Monday at 4:15 p.m. The Huskies also host Cumberland Valley on Wednesday and Williamsport on Thursday.

Also on Monday, Mt. Union (5-11) travels to Glendale with hopes of ending a three-game losing skid. On Tuesday, the Lady Trojans host Claysburg-Kimmel. They will host Southern Huntingdon on Thursday.
