TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Washburn Tech held its 25th annual car show today, May 2nd, celebrating antique automobiles and community connection.
Local enthusiasts from across the area came together for a day of engines and entertainment.
Out of the 200 custom cars on the lot, Randy Alexander considers his to be a labor of love.
“It took 7.5 years to restore it to this quality. It’s a 1970, all numbers matching, Chevelle SS car,” said Randy Alexander, event attendee.
“The guys and the gals enjoy the cars so much that we do everything we can to preserve them. At the same time, we like to get them out and show them off,” Alexander continued.
Beyond the competition is a commitment to the Care Closet, a committee providing financial relief and resources to students experiencing hardship.
“It helps any students that are in need. maybe they need gas, maybe they need car repairs, they can’t make the rent. All the proceeds 100% go to that. And you can see the turnout here today is very helpful,” said Michael Clouser, an instructor at Washburn Tech.
The event started as a way to show off student work and car culture, but has since grown into a major fundraiser.
“I‘m just glad that our whole community here at Washburn is putting something together to get all these people here, and we’re just doing a good thing for the community,” said Bryan Barow, student at Washburn Tech.
Proceeds from the show will go directly to Washburn Tech Care Closet to support students in need.
