Fans of the “Grand Theft Auto” series of video games will have to wait longer than anticipated for the next version of the game.
Developer Rockstar Games announced Friday that the release of “Grand Theft Auto VI” has been pushed back to May 26, 2026.
“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected,” Rockstar Games said in a news release. “The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.”
Speculation had been that GTA VI would be available in time for this year’s holiday shopping season, but developers simply needed more time.
Grand Theft Auto V, released in 2013, ranks among the best-selling video games of all time, with 210 million sales.
