In honor of National Volunteer Month, Airbnb and Hawai‘i Foodbank hosted a volunteer event and check presentation Tuesday to highlight Airbnb’s $1 million donation to address food insecurity across the islands.
Fifteen Airbnb hosts joined Hawai‘i Foodbank staff at the organization’s warehouse, where they sorted and boxed dry goods and produce to support food distribution to communities in need. The hands-on work preceded a formal check presentation, attended by nonprofit leaders, Airbnb representatives, First Lady Jaime Green and a representative from Honolulu Council Chair Tommy Waters’ office.
The $1 million contribution, one of the largest single donations Hawai‘i Foodbank has received in recent years, will be shared among the state’s four major food banks: Hawai‘i Foodbank (serving O‘ahu and Kaua‘i), Maui Food Bank and The Food Basket on Hawai‘i Island.

“Airbnb’s generous gift and their hands-on support today (…) will help provide food for approximately 2 million meals statewide,” said Amy Miller, president and CEO of Hawai‘i Foodbank. “It ensures that families, kūpuna, and keiki have access to the nourishment they need.”
Janel Cozzens, Hawai‘i senior public policy manager at Airbnb, said the company is proud to support Hawai‘i’s foodbanks. “We know food insecurity continues to affect so many households across the islands, and we’re honored to support efforts that provide both immediate relief and long-term impact,” she said.

The donation comes through the Airbnb Community Fund, a global initiative launched in 2020 to support local nonprofits. The fund has committed to distributing $100 million to organizations worldwide by 2030. This year’s grant recipients include more than 160 nonprofits across over 30 countries.
