SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The Hy-Vee/Sanford Legends for Kids program will be revamped, with a new branding plan.
Sanford Sports is transitioning the camps and clinic under a new name. But the goal is to continue to offer the camps, and even expand them if possible.
In the past 25 years, the Hy-Vee/Sanford Legends for Kids program has brought in around $3 million to the community through grants and scholarships, with more than 40,000 kids taking part.
Sanford Sports Complex Director Brock Reynoldson said the camps aren’t going away, even though the Legends name is. And those camps and clinics will remain free.
“The camps and clinics will remain free. That is a huge mission of ours, to provide those opportunities for kids and youth in the area to try something new, try something different,” Reynoldson said.
The changes mostly come down to branding, and more details will be coming later for the community night.
Reynoldson said they’re keeping the same core clinics, like volleyball, basketball, soccer, football, and more. But in the future, they might also add others as well.
Reynoldson said the camps will continue to be a great way for kids to try new activities without having to pay.
“We want them to be able to try without fear of not knowing what to do. Honestly, the most important thing to me at those camps is the kids having fun,” Reynoldson said.
Reynoldson said getting them excited about activity is also a main goal, helping kids build healthy habits.
“Being active is important. The leadership skills, the communications skills, the accountability that comes out of playing a sport is hugely beneficial. Not just the on-court activity or on-field activity itself,” Reynoldson said.
Registration for the camps is now open. More information can be found here.
