Square 4 Partners hires former FCA consumer finance lead

Square 4 Partners has appointed Roma Pearson as Senior Advisory Director in its Consultancy Division, according to a press release.

Pearson was previously Director of Consumer Finance at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), where she led supervision and policy for the consumer lending market.

The move comes as financial services firms contend with increasing regulatory scrutiny, particularly under the Consumer Duty regime and the FCA’s evolving outcomes-based supervision model.

Pearson brings over 25 years of regulatory experience, having held senior roles at the FCA including Head of Mortgages & Consumer Lending, Head of Retail General Insurance, and Head of Risk Advisory. Her work has focused on consumer protection, and she played a leading role in key policy initiatives such as the regulation of deferred payment credit, reform of the Consumer Credit Act, and the ban on referral fees paid by debt packagers.

Commenting on her appointment, Pearson said she was joining Square 4 “at a pivotal time for the financial services industry” and highlighted the growing need for firms to “demonstrate real commitment to delivering good outcomes for consumers.”

Square 4 Partners was established in 2021 and comprises a team of former Big Four consultants, regulatory specialists, and senior leaders from Global Systemically Important Financial Institutions. The consultancy focuses on governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) advisory and interim solutions.

Managing Director Paul Scott said Pearson’s regulatory expertise and FCA leadership background would be “invaluable to our clients as they navigate complex compliance challenges.”
