ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) — The 27th annual “Cares for Kids” Radiothon kicked off Thursday morning at Albany Medical Center, celebrating the strength and bravery of local children under its care. The event aims to raise funds to support the hospital’s programs.
For two days, listeners can tune in to hear more than a dozen families share their personal stories about the challenging conditions that brought them to the Bernard and Millie Duker Children’s Hospital, the only children’s hospital serving 25 counties.
Ethan Spalten’s story is among those being shared. A trip to the emergency room led to the discovery of his Type 1 diabetes and other autoimmune diseases. “Most of the doctors he sees are part of the hospital, so when we’re not at the emergency department, we also go there regularly to do checkups with all the doctors there,” said Steven Spalten, Ethan’s father. “Everyone is amazing—it’s great to know you can walk in and get great care.”
Listeners can hear more stories like Ethan’s today and tomorrow until 6 p.m. on WGY, News Radio 103.1, and River 99.5. Donations can be made by calling 1-877-810-KIDS or texting AMC KIDS to 51555. The funds raised will stay local and go directly to the program.
