For the first time in more than five years, UMass Chan Medical School will host a weekly farmers market and food truck event on its Worcester campus.

The market will be held on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning June 3 and ending Tuesday, Nov. 4. (There will be no event on Sept. 2 and 9.)

“We’re really excited to bring the community together. We felt like this kind of event is needed and necessary, especially when it’s nice outside, to gather together. It’s nice to have community members on campus, and we’ve collected a diverse group of vendors from all different areas,” said Shelby Smyth, program manager for people development and wellness at UMass Chan.

The market will offer a variety of products, including fresh produce, baked goods and specialty items, making it a one-stop shop for community members.

Over the first two weeks, market vendors include Craft Hot Sauce, Dreamwork Natural Soaps, Herbs Make Scents, Nutty Bird Granola, Silverwood Organic Farm, Simply Delight Baked Goods, Great Harvest Bread and Mapleline Farm Bottled Milk

Food trucks will have lunch, dessert and treat options, varying weekly. The June 3 market will feature Travelin’ Bones BBQ (ribs, brisket, pulled pork, etc.), Travelin’ Pizza (wood-fired pizza) and Uhlman’s Ice Cream. On June 10, Mac Daddy (mac n’ cheese) and Grill Daddy (hamburgers) and Mrs. Moriconi’s Ice Cream are on the schedule.

“These events are centered around bringing more activity to campus. We hope that folks will appreciate the convenience of grabbing lunch outside at a food truck and picking up fresh produce, flowers or milk at the market, so they don’t have to stop on the way home from work and they can save that time in their day,” said Joan Miloscia, human resources executive assistant.

Additionally, Silverwood Organic Farm will offer a CSA program, in addition to selling produce at the farmers market.

The farmers market and food truck series is hosted by the Office of Well-Being and the Office of Sustainability. The UMass Chan community is encouraged to bring reusable bags, coolers and cash each week to the farmers market.
