LISBON — Junior Brady Carpenter had a school-record 19 strikeouts and Mason Jones’ go-ahead RBI single with two outs in the fifth was the difference as Lisbon’s baseball team came back to beat Wellsville, 4-3, Wednesday.
Wellsville’s first 12 outs came by way of strikeouts by Carpenter, who gave up five hits and two walks over seven innings.
The Devils went down 3-2 in the top of the third only to come back to tie as Carpenter scored on a fielder’s choice by Aiden Myers with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third inning. The Tigers threw out a runner at the plate for a double play and then Myers was caught stealing to end the inning.
Ashton Hinchliffe had two hits and an RBI for the Devils.
Tyler Landess had a double, two singles and two RBIs for the Tigers. Landon Ramsey had a triple and an RBI.
Both teams scored twice in the first inning. Ethan Morris led off the game with a walk for Wellsville. He scored on a Landon Ramsey triple to deep right field and then Ramsey scored on a long single by Tyler Landess. Carpenter then had seven consecutive strikeouts.
Bryce Esary was hit by a pitch and Carpenter walked to put two Blue Devils in position. Hinchliffe’s single brought both of them home to tie the game at 2-2. A nice stretch by Wellsville first baseman Austin Watkins got the Tigers out of the inning, stranding Hinchliffe at third.
Wellsville went up 3-2 in the third inning as Ramsey walked and scored on Landess’ double to deep left field.
Ramsey was also the losing pitcher with eight strikeouts and five walks in six innings.
Lisbon (7-7 and 3-5 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference) is at Youngstown Chaney today.
Wellsville (3-14, 1-10 in the EOAC) plays a doubleheader against Jefferson County Christian on Friday at Hammond Park.

LEETONIA — United took another step towards the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference baseball crown with an 11-1 rout of Leetonia on Wednesday.
Parker Newburn set the school record with 20 strikeouts in the game. He threw 122 pitches with 78 for strikes. He walked one and gave up two hits. Kadin Schonauer had just set the school mark for strikeouts in a game on Monday with 19 against Leetonia.
The Eagles are 14-5 overall and 7-0 in the EOAC. United hosts Southern Monday.
Schonauer homered against the Bears and added two doubles and an RBI. Quentin Taylor added four hits and an RBI.
Leetonia is 5-7 and 4-4 in the EOAC. The Bears play at St. Thomas Aquinas today.

Beaver Local 8, East Liverpool 1
CALCUTTA — Paxton Grimes had two triples, a single and an RBI as Beaver Local scored an 8-1 win over East Liverpool on Wednesday.
Braxton Hickman added a hit and two RBIs. Grimes was the winning pitcher as he gave up six hits, no earned runs while striking out eight and walking three.
Elliot Fitch went 3 for 3 at the plate for the Potters. Dre Brown had two hits as well.
Donovan Shallcross took the loss with a strikeout and three walks in 3 1/3 innings.
Beaver Local (3-13) hosts United on Tuesday.
East Liverpool (1-16) hosts East Palestine today.

SALINEVILLE — Liam McElwain had a single, double and four RBIs as Columbiana downed Southern Local 18-4 on Wednesday.
Avery Young added two hits and two RBIs. Zane Strohecker had two hits as well.
Ethan Lehnerd and Dan Goehring had doubles.

STRUTHERS — Ursuline rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat East Palestine 7-6 on Wednesday at Cene Park.
Cale Moraski took the loss for the Bulldogs (9-7) with eight strikeouts and three walks in 6 1/3 innings. He also had a double. Jaxson Robb had a double as well.
East Palestine is at East Liverpool today.

SALEM — Marlington’s Dylan Heatherington struck out five and walked one in a complete game shutout of Salem in an 11-0 Dukes’ win on Wednesday.
Troy Gibson and Derek Oesch had two hits each for Salem. Bairon Exline took the loss with six strikeouts and four walks.
Salem is 1-13 and 0-7 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference. Salem is at Field on Saturday.

BELOIT — West Branch lost its fifth straight with a 9-4 loss against Carrollton on Wednesday.
Charlie Biskup had a double, two singles and an RBI for Branch. Jeremiah Thomas had a single, double and RBI. Anthony Perry had a double.
Perry was the losing pitcher with three strikeouts and two walks in four innings.
West Branch (5-10 and 2-5 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference) will be at Carrollton today.
