MHS tracks down Mason City in 2nd half

MASON CITY — Joel Ortiz scored two second-half goals to help the Marshalltown boys’ soccer team rally for a 3-1 victory over Mason City on Tuesday night.

The Bobcats trailed 1-0 at the intermission before two goals from Ortiz and another for Angel Gomez in the second half. Rafael Ortiz assisted on a goal to help Marshalltown (6-4-1) improve to 2-1-0 in the Iowa Alliance Conference’s North Division.

MHS junior goalkeeper Jonathan Nunez made six saves in net, while Mason City’s Trenton Schulze withstood a Bobcat barrage with 11 saves.

Eliott Ruiz scored on an assist from Noah Ruiz for Mason City (3-5-2, 2-2-0).

MHS hosts Fort Dodge Friday at 7:30 p.m.
