Leonardtown Prepares To Rev Its Engines For 2025 St. Mary’s Rod & Classic Car Show And Running Of The Balls

LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Historic Downtown Leonardtown will roar to life on Sunday, May 4, 2025, as hundreds of gleaming classics, hot rods, trucks, and custom rides cruise into town for the annual St. Mary’s Rod & Classic Car Show.

A favorite spring tradition in Southern Maryland, the family-friendly event draws crowds from across the region, celebrating horsepower, history, and hometown pride with live music, raffles, games, and coveted awards for standout vehicles.

But the day isn’t just about chrome and engines. The 12th Annual Running of the Balls — a quirky and beloved fundraiser hosted by the Leonardtown Rotary Club — will once again roll into action. In a sea of colorful, numbered balls racing to the finish line, excitement runs high, all for a good cause. Proceeds from the event support Hospice of St. Mary’s and other local nonprofits, making every entry a win-win.

Spectators can enjoy all the action for just a $5 donation, directly benefitting Hospice of St. Mary’s.

Those planning to visit are advised to note that several downtown roads will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday — or until event staff give the all-clear. Attendees are encouraged to follow posted signs and directions from event personnel to keep the day rolling smoothly.

In case Mother Nature has other plans, a rain date has been scheduled for Sunday, May 18, 2025.
