BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A new budget bill in Washington could mean cuts to your SNAP benefits.
Wednesday is SNAP Day of Action, and Vermont food security advocates are sounding the alarm.
They urge lawmakers to stand up against the plan that would cut food access for low-income families as well as a key revenue source for farms and food retailers.
SNAP helps 65,000 Vermonters a month.
Advocates say even a 10% cost shift could mean Vermont has to cover $140 million between 2026 and 2034.
