Hot Take: Julian Edelman Makes Bold Statement About Italian Food in Providence

Julian Edelman has a hot take about Italian food in Rhode Island, and I’m here for it.

On the latest episode of his podcast, the New England Patriot alum sits with his former teammate Danny Amendola, and they spill the sauce on where the best Italian food can be found in New England.

And no, it’s not Boston.

Games with Names hosted by Julian Edelman

Julian Edelman was once a Super Bowl MVP and clutch wide receiver for the Pats. Nowadays, he’s the host of Games with Names, a podcast on the search to find the greatest games of all time. He and his all-star guests dive into classic matchups and eras across all sports history and tell never-before-heard stories and insights from the “glory days.”

For me, the untold stories are always the best part of the episode. When Gronk realized he was “officially famous” during a night out in Providence, I shared the clip with everyone.

According to several guests on Games with Names, it seems like the Pats players venture out of Boston frequently and find themselves in Downtown Providence, where Edelman can’t get enough of the food.

Italian Food Is Better in Providence, According to Julian Edelman

It’s rare for Edelman and his guests to stay solely on the topic of sports. When Italian food came up, the host had a lot to say.

“Whenever you want Italian in Boston, everyone goes North End (but) the real Townies go to little neighborhood spots to the places that have been there forever,” said Edelman.

When the podcast’s producer asked about the food in Providence, both Edelman and Amendola lit up.

“The food in Providence is amazing,” said Amendola. “Johnson and Wales is right there, Brown is right there…there’s a lot of young, entrepreneurial chefs out there trying to make a good product and haven’t gotten off the ground yet, so you can catch a lot of great stuff.”

Enter Edelman with the hot take.

“I think Federal Hill has better Italian than the North End,” he declared.

Finally. Someone gets it.

Federal Hill, aka “Providence’s Little Italy”, is home to some of the best Italian food in the world.

Some of the restaurants have been operating since the mass immigration of Italians to the area.

While it is much more diverse these days, Federal Hill is still rich in culture and acts as the standard for delicious Italian cuisine.
